エグゼクティブコーチングの目的  Objectives of executive coaching

Executive coaching is a leadership training program in which executive coaches can support corporate executives to improve in their leadership skill. This can also lead to positive outcomes in the organization for which the executives are responsible. Behavior change of the executives can be a trigger to make the organization become more contstructive and innovative. The executive coaching program has already been adopted by global companies years ago and is being recently and rapidly implemented in many Japanese companies.

Executive coaching program is performed in a 1on1 session style class for 60~90 minutes per each class over 6~12 months. The unique feature is that an executive coach will support caochees  through interviews with stakeholders about the strengths, weaknesses and expectations on coachee’s leadership. The interviews are held prior to the first coaching session, in the half way through the coaching period and before the final session. To understand precisely and neutrally coachee’s leadership skill improvement,  the interviews are key for measuring the outcome of executive coaching program.

Since coachees are the leaders of the organizations, their behavior significantly affects on and is affected by a business and organizational environment factors (“client environment”). The client environments includes following elements; performance evaluation system, corporate rules and guidelines, governance, compliance, quality control, customer service, financial performance, customer conplaints as well as human relationships, customers relations, suppliers relations, affiliated companies, shareholders and distributors. These elements are complex and change and both the coachee and the coach need to adopt and keep up with these changes.

The higher the position in the organization receives the less opportunity feedback from subordinates . In the executive coaching program, the coach receives feedback about the coachee’s strengths, weaknesses and expectations from the coachee’s stakeholders. Then based on this feedback, the coaching objectives can be identified, implemented and reflected on daily and weekly. This is a thoroughly personalized training program for improving leadership skill of the coachees and helps coachees to improve their business performance and to resolve issues surrounding them. The leadership skill change from “a leader in terms of job title” to being “a leader as a person” can bring a positive outcome to the organization and to improve the relationship with key stakeholders.
